FDCI to host India’s first National Fashion Awards in 2008

India’s apex fashion body, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) would host the country’s first National Fashion Awards in Mumbai from next year. The National Fashion Award will act as a platform to acknowledge emerging talent in fashion. The Awards will cover the entire fashion platform – from students to professionals, including both members and non-members of the FDCI. It will also recognise and reward upcoming designers in allied fashion fraternity, which includes models, fashion photographers, choreographers, make-up artists, etc.

This is another initiative by FDCI after the success of India Fashion Week that was started seven years ago, followed by the Spring-Summer edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week that was launched last year. FDCI is actively involved in promoting the ‘business of fashion’ in India and working towards corporatisation of fashion labels in the country. The body is instrumental in facilitating designer-corporate tie-ups, aimed at expanding the designer prêt market in the country.

Announcing the National Fashion Awards, Rathi Vinay Jha, Director General, FDCI, said, “Being India’s apex fashion body, FDCI constantly works towards fostering growth of the fashion industry. The Awards are another step in this direction. We have provided our stakeholders with an opportunity to showcase their creativity at the India Fashion Week. It is now time to reward deserving individuals for their contribution to Indian fashion. The FDCI Board is delighted to announce India’s first Fashion Awards, which will recognise both eminent and emerging talent.”

360 Degrees, the experiential marketing and BTL solutions arm of Times Innovative Media Ltd (TIML) – a wholly owned subsidiary of Entertainment Network (India) Ltd (ENIL) – has been appointed as the official event managers, while Ernst & Young will be the official tabulator for the awards.

According to A P Parigi, MD, ENIL, said, “We are delighted to partner FDCI as event managers for India’s first National Fashion Awards. 360 Degrees is renowned for having managed and marketed some of India’s biggest events. I am certain that this partnership will help to take this event to great heights.”
