Editors Guild elections: TN Ninan is President; Coomi Kapoor continues as General Secy

TN Ninan, Chairman and Editorial Director, Business Standard, has been elected as President of the Editors Guild of India at its annual general body meeting held last week. Suresh Bafna of NaiDunia has been elected Treasurer, while Coomi Kapoor, veteran journalist and a columnist with The Indian Express Group, has been re-elected as General Secretary.

Ninan succeeds Rajdeep Sardesai of CNN-IBN, while Bafna has taken over from Senior Editor Rohit Bansal.

A release issued stated: “In its continuing campaign against paid news, the Guild decided to post on its website from February 1, 2011, the names of those members who sign affidavits pledging against indulging in this pernicious practice. The general body agreed to grant a month’s grace period to ensure that all its members actually received the circular for signing the affidavit.”

As is known, in the past, even after the recommendations by the Guild, very few members had signed the affidavits pledging against indulging in paid news practice.
