To raise public awareness about environment, Earth Communications Office – India Association, a registered non-profit organization, aims to involve committed citizens drawn from the media and entertainment industry.
Their agenda includes involving the country’s creative talent: filmmakers, broadcasters and the advertising fraternity. Partnering with the business community, the government and environmental leaders, ECO India will produce hard-hitting public service announcements. A nationwide contest for a thirty-second or less commercial based on the theme ‘Conserve Water’ forms part of the initiative.
Through the contest, ECO India aims to draw people from the media and entertainment industry to produce and broadcast public service announcements that provoke and convince. Speaking about the contest, Alka Gupta, Manager, ECO India, told exchange4media.com, “We are inviting entries from ad agencies, creative directors, filmmakers, NGOs and other to come up with a thirty-second or less ‘ready commercial’ based on the theme ‘Conserve Water’. The panel of judges will be from the media industry. The winner will get an opportunity to take his entry to the ‘Cannes Lions Festival’ and get also get it shown on national and regional television channels with a credit byline.”
How is ECO India promoting the contest and inviting entries? “We have circulated fliers to our board of directors and to different trade bodies,” Gupta said. The Board members include Peter Mukerjea, Amit Khanna, G Krishnan, R Basu, Bhuvan Lall, Pradeep Guha, Yash Chopra, Manmohan Shetty, Sam Balsara, Rajiv Agarwal and Rajesh Pant. The last date for receiving the commercial was January 15, 2004.
ECO India has till date produced and broadcast four radio spots on ‘Conserve Water’ in association with Radio Mirchi, a PSA in association with Mike Pandey on noise pollution caused by Diwali crackers, and was instrumental in bringing to Indian television, the acclaimed PSA made by ECO US: ‘The Power of One’.
