Deccan Chronicle unveils its ‘Deccan Chargers’ for Indian Premier League

Deccan Chronicle, the largest selling English daily in Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday unveiled the name, logo, flag and anthem of Hyderabad’s DLF Indian Premier League team. The team has been christened the ‘Deccan Chargers’ and has a charging bull as its logo.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkattram Reddy, Chairman, Deccan Chronicle, said, “The Deccan Chronicle Group has always believed in promoting sports, and the Deccan Chargers is our way of contributing to this vision. We are confident that our Deccan Chargers would inspire a whole new generation of cricketers in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa to build on their talents and reach greater heights.”

J Krishnan, President & CEO of the Deccan Chargers, while presenting the various aspects of their strategy for the formation of the team, said, “The logo of a ‘charging bull’ for the team signifies strength, power and aggression. The team flag comprises red and gold colours – where red stands for aggression and dominance, while gold signifies victory. The Deccan Chargers team will always be strong, powerful and aggressive, and will play to win.”

The team management of the Deccan Chargers also appointed Adam Gilchrist as Vice Captain of the team. In a pre-recorded video message, Gilchrist said that he was delighted to be part of the Hyderabad team and was excited that players from so many cultures would play together.

The Deccan Chargers team comprises captain Laxman, Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Rohit Sharma, Rudra Pratap Singh, Scott Styris, Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Zoysa, Sanjay Bangar and Venugopal Rao.

The team also unveiled their interactive website, www.deccanchargers.com, which boasts of discussion forums, player stats, match schedules, photo/video gallery and blogs to enable fans from all over the world to interact with and support their team.
