CNBC TV 18, Arena Multimedia institute ‘Golden Cursor Excellence in Animation Awards’

CNBC TV18, along with Arena Multimedia, has instituted the ‘Golden Cursor Excellence in Animation Awards’. Powered by Animation Xpress.Com that is a source of news, knowledge and connectivity with Indian animation, VFX and gaming, this first-ever award will recognise excellence in the animation industry. The award has been conceptualised with the objective of enhancing and shaping the future of the Indian animation industry and creating a unique foothold in the international animation arena.

The Golden Cursor Animation Awards in Excellence will felicitate the animation developers into two basic categories -- amateur and professional. The professional entries will be further divided sector-wise, which includes films, TV commercials, mobile entertainment, TV channels and animation games. An expert team will comprise animation experts from TV18’s graphics and animation team The Cell, and the editorial teams from AnimationXpress.com and Tech2 editorial team.

While commenting on the need for the award in this space, Ajay Chacko, Head-Marketing, CNBC Universe, said, “The Indian animation industry is currently driving on two key factors -- a large base of highly skilled labour and low cost of production. There are around 300 animation companies in India employing 12,000 employees. While the industry is gaining prominence, awards like Golden Cursor Excellence in Animation Awards will bring to light some of the best work that this industry has projected in the last few years.”

Pramod Khera, Managing Director, Aptech, said, “Arena pioneered Multimedia and animation education in India in the mid ’90s. Having provided over 2 lakh trained animation and multimedia developers to the industry, Arena is now pleased to launch the Golden Cursor Animation Awards, which we feel will further spur the growth of the industry in India.”

Anand Gurnani, Co-Founder, AnimationXpress.com, said, “As an organisation, AnimationXpress.com is focussed on servicing the Indian animation and gaming industry’s various needs and in acting as a catalyst for growth. We are glad to empower the Golden Cursor Awards and contribute with our knowledge base, industry connectivity and media network.” Animation Xpress.com will be instrumental in driving entries from the industry as well as methodology for the Awards.
