GECs too geared up to celebrate Republic Day

Like news channels, Hindi and Marathi GECs, too, have geared up to celebrate Republic Day with great gusto. Most of the GECs have arranged special episodes of existing shows for viewers and have also planned special programmes to observe R-Day. A quick preview.

Hindi GECs

Star Plus is all set to celebrate 61 years of India’s freedom with a colourful presentation and a celebratory night called ‘Rang De India - Azaadi Ki Young Tarang’ on January 26 at 9.30 am. The event showcases a never seen before amalgamation of dances, popular songs and new acts by young, popular and talented actors and singers of the industry. Adding a social touch, the acts also delve on various social issues while educating the audience about India’s vast glory and deep rooted culture.

As part of its Republic Day special line-up, Zee TV aired the movie ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ on January 25. The grand finale of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’ was aired on January 24 from the precincts of the Gateway of India as a tribute to the never-say-die spirit of Mumbai.

On Sony Entertainment Television, the ‘Indian Idol’ contestants chose to sing patriotic songs. Film songs and non-film songs, too, made their presence felt in the Republic Day episode of ‘Indian Idol’, which was aired on January 23 at 9 pm. In the same episode, the music launch of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s forthcoming movie ‘Delhi 6’ took place on the sets of ‘Indian Idol’. Present on the occasion were adman and lyricist Prasoon Joshi and actress Sonam Kapoor, along with Mehra.

This Republic Day, young India joins hands in unison with NDTV Imagine to present a unique event to pay tribute and homage to the country. ‘Hum Young Hindustani’, a music and dance extravaganza featuring some of India’s brightest young talent, saluted the spirit of this Republic in a power-packed event, which was aired on Sunday, January 25, at 12 noon.

SAB also captures the message of unity in diversity this Republic Day. Its popular series ‘Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah’, airing on the channel Monday-Thursday, spells out their diverse patriotism for the country in a special episode airing on Monday, January 26 at 8.30 pm.

Marathi GECs

Marathi GECs, too, have lined up special programmes to celebrate the spirit of Republic Day. Zee Marathi will feature a special episode, named ‘Shoora Mee Vandile’, for its show ‘Idea Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Lil Champs’. The special episode has been designed by veteran singer and music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar, who has been conferred the Padma Shri this year. This special episode would be aired on January 26 and 27 at 7.30 pm.

Saam Marathi will air ‘Jago Hindustani’, a concert of patriotic film songs with narrations. The three-hour long programme would be aired be at 7:30 pm on January 26.

Elaborating on the special programme, Ambarnath Sinha, Channel Promotion Head, Saam Marathi, said, “Performed by the group Swarninad, this has remained a cherished performance, where the content remained unchanged for the past one decade for over 1,800 performances across India, but appreciated ad infinitum. A programme of emotion, togetherness and belief manifested through the unforgettable patriotic songs comprising mostly Hindi film songs with a few Marathi songs as well. ‘Jago Hindustani’ is performed once again, but for the first time exclusively for television. We thought this as the ultimate way to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our soldiers, patriots and leaders. This, we thought, was the best way to remember the sacrifices of the bravehearts who saved Mumbai and India on that fateful day of November 2008. Thus, we thought to create a programme that will unite the whole of Maharashtra and India. This is the day we thought we’d begin a new journey towards more meaningful programming.”
