Sony announces new reality-based comedy format ‘Comedy Circus’

Sony Entertainment Television has announced a new reality-based comedy format ‘Comedy Circus’. The soap will be produced by Optimystix, and will go on air from June 16 every Saturday in the 9.30 pm slot.

The show brings together celebrities and professional comedians partners on a competitive stage. The show will see seven stand-up comedians teaming to train seven popular actors. The show will complete with 13 episodes.

On the occasion, Albert Almeida, EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment, said, “This show will present another facet of television’s most popular stars who will be vying to tickle the funny bones of their fans. The channel has always presented entertaining weekends to the viewers and this show is yet another trendsetter in variety entertainment.”

On the marketing of the show, Aseem Kapoor, Senior VP- Marketing, SET, said, “We are planning this time for a huge on-ground activity where the participants will themselves interact with the audience. Along with the traditional media which is television, outdoor and print, we have also planned for radio spots with Radio City as our radio partners while we have signed up with Yahoo! under the digital space.”

The seven actors include Urvashi Dholakia, stage and television actor Ketaki Dave, Karishma Tanna, Ali Asgar, Kiran Karmarkar, Swapnil Joshi and Varun Badola, who would team up with stand-up comedians like Shakeel Ahmed Siddiqui, VIP, Annu Mudgul, Pratap Faujdar, Khayali Saharan, Kashif Khan and Sunil Sawara to leave in splits with their gags and wit.

The panel of two judges will consists of Umar Shariff and Archana Puran Singh, while Shruti Sheth will host the show.
