Vijay TV’s event-based programming kicks off in 2006 with a mega musical chronicling the evolution of Tamil cinema through the ages. The event has been scheduled for February 5. ‘Samsung Netru Indru Naalai 2006’ is being packaged as a ‘three-hour mélange of song, dance and absolute entertainment’, and is directed by Manirathnam.
An event on similar lines scheduled for August 15, 2005, also in aid of Chennai-based NGO ‘The Banyan’, was rained out.
For the musical, art director Sabu Cyril is rendering the sets with life size props to recreate the era being represented. Lighting and pyrotechnics are by ace lensman and filmmaker Rajiv Menon. The show will have over 100 dancers on one stage with some of the biggest stars in Tamil filmdom. A R Rahman will weave his musical magic, and a special song composed by the musician will be premiered at the event.
The event promises a galaxy of stars at the Jeppiar Engineering College, beginning 6.30 pm on the said date. Bollywood and Kollywood stars, including Madhavan, Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachan, Shyaam, Silambarasan, Reemasen, Shilpa Shetty, Shobana, Bharath, Kiran, Pooja, Malavika, Revathy, Rohini, Vivek, Vineeth, Abbas, Genelia, and Sridevi are on the performers’ list.
The channel is yet to decide on when the show, whose format is on the lines of a broadway musical, will be aired.
