Several well-known names in India’s fashion industry were among winners of the Marie Claire Made in India Fashion Awards 2008. The Awards were given away at a glittering ceremony in the Capital on October 10. The Awards put the arch-lights on Indian fashion and its designers and brought to light the revolution of design.
Shefalee Vasudev, Editor, Marie Claire, said, “Made in India is now a powerful brand all over the world and not a label hidden on the underside of a cotton shirt made in sweatshops here and sold in malls abroad. To uphold, honour and revel in India’s emergence on the global fashion stage is to remember and remind that fashion is about authority and power. We now create definitive fashion because we are a definitive people. This is not patriotism, this is glocalism.”
Suresh Selvaraj, President, Outlook Group, said, “Made in India Fashion Awards 2008 for Indian designers is the first ever instituted by a fashion magazine in India and Marie Claire is proud to do it. We had received 89 entries for the Awards. The process for the Awards began almost five months back, wherein puppets draped in designer wear were displayed during the announcement of the Awards in Delhi and Mumbai. We have also followed it up with a fashion seminar, ‘Future of Fashion - Is India Ready?’ The jury members for these Awards are well-known names in the fashion industry. The nomination process and selection criteria etc. were strictly observed and validated by KPMG to ensure fair play. We are confident that Marie Claire will take the Made in India awards bigger and better as we go by.”
The jury members included Fern Mallis, Senior Vice President, IMG Fashion Worldwide; Rathi Vinay Jha, Director General, Fashion Design Council of India; Sunil Sethi, CEO, Sunil Sethi Design Alliance; Joseph Carle, Creative Director, International Editions, Marie Claire; Anil Chopra, Advisor, Beauty and Fashion, Hindustan Unilever Ltd; Harmeet Bajaj, Fashion Director, Marie Claire India; and image management consultant Dilip Cherain.
