Whirlpool celebrates womanhood with Whirlpool GR8! Women Awards

Continuing its tradition of celebrating womanhood, Whirlpool of India is presenting the second "Whirlpool GR8! Women Awards 2005" in the Capital on February 18. The event is being organised by the Indian Television Academy and the event will be telecast on Star Plus on March 5.

Arvind Mediratta, Vice President - Marketing, said, "When Star Plus and GR8 came up with this proposal to recognise achievements of women across 19 different categories. We found it a good fit with our basic positioning of 'Partnership in Homemaking' and also a perfect fit with our core target audience of modern, contemporary Indian women who have an existence beyond home and hearth."

On how has this initiative helped the brand, he said, "The entire association has been a very successful brand initiative. The byline of 'Homemakers se Newsmakers' fits in very well with our brand positioning and the logo that has been developed also gives great prominence to the Whirlpool brand."

The award categories range from cinema, journalism, music, entrepreneurship, literature, social service, beauty, television and corporate etc. The list of nominees include like Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra, Indu Jain, Shobhana Bharatiya, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Alka Yagnik, Kishori Amonkar, Anjali Bhagwat, Anju George, Lalita Gupte, Chanda Kocchar and Anjali Kasbekar.

On the awards procedure, he said, "There are 3-5 nominees in each category. These have been arrived at after an exhaustive process undertaken by reputed Market Research agency, Eikona. The final winners in each category will be decided by a jury, which includes prominent names from the industry like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Neelam Kapoor, Shatrugan Sinha, Mahesh Bhatt, Rajdeep Sardesai, Rajat Sharma, Kapil Dev, Anu Ranjan."

Asked how Whirlpool is advertising the event, he said, "We will be promoting the event through press ads and radio spots. Besides there will be over 650 promos on Star Plus, Star Gold and Star News."
