VLCC appoints Syed Safawi as Managing Director and Group CEO

VLCC Health Care Limited, the holding company of the VLCC Group, has announced the appointment of Syed Safawi as the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of the company. Sandeep Ahuja, who has been serving as Managing Director of the company, will take on a new role within the Group ‎.

Safawi joins VLCC from Viom Networks (now known as ATC Telecom Infrastructure Private Limited), where he served as the CEO since 2012. During his tenure, the company went through a radical business and organizational transformation that created over US$ 3 billion worth of enterprise value and led to a top-10 inbound M&A deal in India ever, across sectors.

Prior to Viom Networks, Safawi was with Reliance Communications Limited (RCom) as the President and CEO of the Wireless Business and Chairman of the Reliance Management Board. He worked with RCom for over two years, taking it to over 150 million customers, a US$ 4 billion revenue and US$ 1 billion EBIDTA. Before RCom, he was with Bharti Airtel Limited as the Executive Director, responsible for the East and West India operations along with the international wireless and global calling card operations.

Sawafi has over 28 years of professional experience both in India and the global markets, almost half of which has been with The Coca-Cola Company, where he was last based at Vietnam as Country Manager and CEO, managing the business for Indochina, prior to serving with Coca-Cola in India. He has served on the boards of several companies in India and globally as well in The Coca-Cola Company, the Bharti Group, and the Reliance Group and continues to be on several Advisory Boards.  An MBA, He is alumnus of The Wharton School, USA and is a certified Director from the Institute of Directors.
