PVR Pictures eyes Hollywood film distribution rights

PVR Pictures, a subsidiary of PVR Ltd. dealing in distribution and networking of movies, is in the pipeline to open doors for a huge assortment and distribution of entertaining Hollywood movies. This is a development that took place post Sanjeev Kumar Bijli’s visit to the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Asked on the plans, Tushar Dhingra, VP, Marketing, PVR Ltd, said, “The distribution business is an intrinsic part of the same supply chain which synergises with PVR exhibition business. It is an obvious backward integration to widen the horizons related with entertainment.”

Dhingra said that PVR had been successful in formulating the presence of PVR in both Indian and international markets over the years. “We are looking at a holistic picture by further strengthening the distribution and serving the customers with quality world and Indian cinema,” he added.

Sky Fighters (Thriller), The Girls (Sexy Teen Comedy) starring Paris Hilton, Good Sharma (Comedy) starring Susan Sarandon, Running Scared (Thriller), Supercross (Thriller), The Cleaner (Action Comedy) starring Lucy Lui, Finders Keepers (Comedy) starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Santa’s Slay (Comedy) by David Steiman, Havoc (Crime Thriller), Love Wrecked (Romantic Comedy), The United States of Leland (Drama) starring top actors including Kevin Spacey and Don Cheadle, and Man About Town (Comedy Drama) starring Ben Affleck are some of the movies for which PVR is on the process of acquiring rights.

PVR Pictures has released several films earlier, including Chicago, the Kill Bill Series, and The Aviator. This venture would prove to be a big strategic move for the multiplex giant, considering that with the acquisition of rights for Hollywood movies, PVR Pictures would prove to be the cash cow for PVR Ltd.
