Planet Sports to roll out Ferrari branded goods

With Formula One racing gaining in popularity among young Indians, sports retailing major Planet Sports plans to roll out Ferrari-branded sporting merchandise across its stores in over a month, coinciding with the international launch.

According to Mr K.V.S. Unni, Chief Operating Officer, Planet Sports, the products would include footwear as well as racing gear including the dress, helmet and other accessories. "These would be very premium products and will be imported from the Puma headquarters in Germany. The exact pricing for the products is yet to be finalised," Mr Unni said.

Though not revealing what the expected sales would be, Mr Unni said that with the viewership for motorsports steadily increasing, the demand is expected to be significant.

Planet Sports currently has 25 outlets across the country and expects to add five more stores in the current year. The sports retail chain is the exclusive licensee in the country for leading brands such as Puma, Prince, Spalding, Speedo, and Wilson among others.

"We are currently in talks with other brands. At present about 50 per cent of our sales come from footwear, 15 per cent from sports gear and the balance from other products such as apparel," Mr Unni said.
