The much-awaited Pitch Top 50 Brands 2014 list, an annual property from the exchange4media group, that honours brands in 10 categories for excellence in marketing was unveiled. The jury meet concluded on May 10. The panel of esteemed jury, chaired by Santosh Desai , MD Future Brandsdeliberated on the final list. Flipkart was chosen as the brand of the year. Flipkart and Samsung were close in the race to make it to the top of the list. Flipkart has been on top of the consumer's mind in the booming age e-commerce.Talking about Flipkart, Jury Chairperson, Santosh Desai, MD& CEO, Future Brands said,"Flipkart was the strongest contender due to their wonderful marketing innovations. They have been on top of the mind with their ads, and constant innovations in their services. All these initiatives have made Flipkart one of the best e-retailers."

Hamsini Shivakumar, Owner , Leapfrog Strategy Consulting said, "The concept of Pitch Top 50 Brands is different from others as we do not classify brands according to sectors but ten different categories and the best five in that category come out to be brands from various sectors."

Fogg, Ola Cabs, Paper Boat, Tata Sky and Levi’s made it to list of The  Innovators. Vineet Trakroo, CEO, Evolution Strategy Advisors felt The Innovators as a category was difficult for brands as there are not many innovations happening on Indian soil or impacting Indian economy.

In the Newsmakers category, after extensive discussions and debate Samsung, Flipkart, Twitter, Google made it to the top fivebut the surprise addition to this category was Tanishq for its pathbreaking television advertising.

Moneka Khurana, Strategic Consultant and Trainer – Digital Services, Independent Consultantsaid, "The Newsmakers was the most difficult category to choose from, as brands often come into the limelight for wrong reasons, while the newness of brands comes from the fact that they either innovate or keep buzzing with their marketing dollars."

Rahul Saighal, former Group CMO, Samsung India ;Vibhuti Channa, Marketing Director, Advent Brand House; Chintamani Rao, Strategic Marketing and Media Advisor; Shefali Chhachhi, Independent Business Development Professional and Jaydeep Mukherjee, Associate Professor, Marketing, MDI , Chairperson – Marketing Area were also part of the eminent jury.
