Moser Baer forays into home entertainment with video titles

Moser Baer, one of India’s largest and the world’s second largest optical storage manufacturer, has forayed into the home video market. The company announced its national launch in this segment with 101 popular Hindi titles at price points of Rs 28 for VCDs and Rs 34 for DVDs.

Along with the launch of 101 Hindi titles and announcement of two new film projects, the company also formally inaugurated the online website that offers the entire range of home videos released by the company till now for consumers to order and obtain them directly without any delivery cost. The website offers titles in both VCD and DVD formats and in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and non-film titles. Soon titles from English, Telugu, Marathi and other languages will also be available.

Moser Baer will release video content on DVD and VCD formats using its proprietary and patented technology. The company has already lined up 450 distributors and stocks will soon bee available in around 100,000 outlets, including stationery shops, telecom shops and regular audio and video outlets.

Said Deepak Puri, Chairman and MD, Moser Baer India, “The entertainment industry is growing at a healthy pace of 20 per cent per annum and with our new technology, manufacturing capability and distribution network, we plan to revolutionize the entertainment industry with home video products. As a part of the value chain, we are considering producing, developing and marketing content in both films and non-films.”

Said Harish Dayani, Chief Executive, Entertainment Business, Moser Baer, “This initiative represents an excellent opportunity to leverage our optical media strengths in patented and proprietary technology, capacity and costs enabling us to offer high quality titles at very attractive price points. I believe that at these price points, consumers will finally have a chance to own Bollywood.”

The company also announced pilot projects of two Hindi films. Moser Baer will be creating consumer pull and awareness through a nationwide TV campaign starting from this month-end and wilt also use the national press to reach out to consumers and communicate the value proposition offered.

Moser Baer’s new division is close to acquiring copyrights / exclusive license for more than 7,000 titles in all major Indian languages. The new initiative will release titles in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi languages.
