It’s been a year since Maruti Swift was launched on May 25, 2005, and in this one year, the compact car from Maruti Suzuki has won several accolades. Designed by Indian engineers along with their Japanese counterparts, Swift has created a record of sorts by clocking sales of over 61,200 units in the first year of its launch.
Maruti had taken various initiatives for Swift’s launch. The company had trained nearly 1,000 salespersons (called Swift energisers) to exclusively sell the Swift. The auto major used the concept of in-film advertising for the first time when Swift debuted with the hit Bollywood flick ‘Bunty aur Babli’.
Besides, there were interesting innovations like a tie-up with Café Coffee Day, Swift Floats, where life size replicas of the car was mounted on trucks placed at strategic locations, innovative hoardings, prominent displays at various malls and Swift merchandise.
Swift bagged several awards – Car of the Year Award in India, Japan, UK, Ireland, Iceland, China, New Zealand. Besides, it was one of the 10 cars shortlisted for the World Car of the Year Award, and was ranked 5th in the final rankings.
