With the onslaught of reality shows on television these days, what better than one based on cricket, considering the immense popularity that the sport enjoys in India.
IMG, one of the world’s largest sports, lifestyle and entertainment management and marketing companies, has associated with Hindi news channel, Channel 7, to bring the Scorpio Speedster 2005.
As the name suggests, Scorpio Speedster, will test the bowling prowess of Indians through a talent hunt across 10 Indian cities starting with Delhi on September 17. The hunt will subsequently move on to cities like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Gwalior, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. It will culminate in Mumbai.
Scorpio Speedster will hunt for seven fastest bowlers, which will be showcased through 13 episodes in October or November on Channel 7. The winner will be declared in the final episode and will be awarded a full season’s training at the MRF Pace Foundation along with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
Although IMG had been conducting the hunt for the last two years, this is the first time that IMG has taken Scorpio Speedster to the television as a full-fledged reality show.
Ravi Krishnan, Managing Director, IMG/TWI South Asia, said, “IMG is proud to announce the third edition of this successful event. The contest has now evolved to the next stage where the winner will not only be the fastest, but will also possess other requisite skills to emerge as a match winner.”
Commenting on the association with the event, Siddhartha Gupta, Director, Channel 7, said, “When we came across IMG and their concept of this search for India’s fastest bowler, we decided to create India’s first reality cricket show. The idea now is not just to find who can bowl the fastest delivery in the nation, but to give India a true speed demon, a potential cricketing icon, a complete fast bowler.”
Mahindra & Mahindra will be the official sponsor of the show while Canditi Foods will be the presenting sponsor. Adidas and Domino’s Pizza are the co-sponsors for the event.
