Godrej bifurcates its business

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (GCPL), the Rs 540 crore FMCG division of the Godrej group, has bifurcated its business into two groups — soaps and personal care. The change, aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving business focus and employee development, came into effect from October 1.

Post-restructuring the soap group, headed by Rakesh Sinha as the vice-president, will comprise soap brands Cinthol, FairGlow, No.1 as well as brand extensions Cinthol Talc, Cinthol International Deodorant Spray and FairGlow Fairness Cream.

The personal care group, headed by Jayant Khandeparkar as the general manager, on the other hand will handle the Godrej hair colour business, fabric and household care products such as Ezee liquid detergent and Godrej liquid cleaner, respectively.

According to industry sources, the creation of these two groups will help increase focus on the categories, which will result in better operating coordination and improve business performance and profitability. Each group will be responsible for marketing, manufacturing and procurement for their respective categories.

Riding on the success of its fabric care brand Ezee in the market, GCPL is set to launch another product in this category. According to the company, its research and development centre is working on a specialised product aimed at cleaning specific kind of garments, which currently need to be dry-cleaned.
