Electrolux to launch ‘Talking Washing Machine’ in India

Electrolux Kelvinator Limited plans to launch the world’s first talking washing machine in India. Branded as ‘Washy Talky’, the product incorporates an Interactive Voice Response System, which guides the user through the entire wash process by voice instructions both in English and Hindi. It is a global first and the technology has been patented, says the company.

The machine also indicates operational errors like overloading and unevenly distributed clothes. The brain of the machine, a Fuzzy Logic Microcomputer, senses the weight of the wash load and decides the optimum wash programme, water level and wash time automatically. Any error is automatically detected and the voice/digital indicators convey the message to the user.

Priced at Rs 20,000, the fully automatic Washy Talky is targeted at a mature consumer segment. The company plans to launch it in a phased manner. The first stage will cover the major metros in April and later be extended gradually to the smaller markets.
