Debashis Mitra quits Mercedes

Debashis Mitra, Marketing and Sales Director, Mercedes Benz India has put in his papers. Mitra was with the company for the last four years.

A company spokesperson, said in a statement, “Debashis Mitra has decided to move on in his professional career pursuit. He has accordingly resigned from Mercedes-Benz India. We are in the process of deciding the succession plan.”

Mitra, as per agency reports, has a few offers and one of them is from the automotive sector itself.

Mercedes, in recent years, has lost its Numero Uno position in the luxury car segment in India to BMW and Audi. As Eberhard K Kern took the role of Managing Director and CEO of the company in India about three months ago, it had announced that the car maker is aiming to recapture the top spot in the space by 2015-16.

The company plans to sell 70,000 to 80,000 cars in the Indian market by the year 2022.

Mitra had joined the company in 2008, during a tough phase for the market and the organisation. There were business challenges, emerging competition and an aggressive pricing strategy that was slowly eating up the market share. Under Mitra’s leadership in the marketing department, Mercedes Benz India went for a complete revamp of dealer network and new dealerships were got on board.
