Commercial launch of Reliance Jio will be on December 31: Mukesh Ambani

At the 42nd RIL AGM, Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance Jio will be launched on September 5 and the commercial launch will be on December 31.
He even announced that all voice calls for Jio customers will be free because according to him, customers should pay for only one service, either voice or data, not both. Discussing the plethora of tariff plans, he said, “We start from Rs 19 per day data plan for the occasional data user. Then there is a Rs 149 monthly plan for the light data user. The data plan for the heaviest user goes up to Rs 4,999 per month.”
Ambani further announced that Jio will cover 90% of India’s population by March 2017. Jio is the biggest investment in the history of RIL. It will move India from ‘data shortage’ to ‘data abundance’.
Ambani further pointed, “In the last week alone, Jio customers suffered over 5 crore call failures to other networks because of insufficient interconnect capacity. Therefore, the onus is rightly on the incumbent operators not to misuse their market power by creating unfair hurdles. I appeal to my fellow operators to do their part to create a fair framework of co-opetition that is good for India and Indian customers.”
