With the FIFA World Cup being the talk of one and all around the world, soccer-crazy Kerala is doing its bit to be among the celebrations.
A three-week long FIFA World Cup carnival, organised by Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd, was kicked off on Sunday at the Kottayam municipal stadium to celebrate the global event.
Over the next three weeks, the carnival will move to Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram and will stay for three days in each city before culminating at Kozhikode on the day of the final match on July 9.
The carnival with a huge screen providing live coverage and highlights of various matches will be on in Kottayam till June 20. It will then move on to Ernakulam on June 23 and stay on till June 25 at the International Stadium, Kaloor.
From June 29 to July 1, the show will be on in Thrissur at the Banerjee Club and in Malappuram, the carnival will run from July 3 to 5 at the Janata Mandir Hall, Manjeri. In its last leg, the carnival will be in Kozhikode from July 7 to July 9.
Besides providing an opportunity to watch the matches live on a big screen, the carnival will also host a variety of interactive games and contests like penalty goal, score a goal, break a tower and table football. Visitors who walk in with a 600ml Coke would be welcome to participate in these contests and win fabulous prizes, a release said.
Cherian Paul, sales and marketing manager of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages in Kerala, said in a release: "There has been a demand from our consumers to provide an opportunity to watch the matches on big screens and we have responded by organising this event".
Coca-Cola, who is the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup, has lined up various marketing initiatives on the World Cup theme across India. Celebrating the soccer world cup on Kerala's football fields is one among them.
