Allied Domecq’s new concoction: a little golf in the office

For those busy executives who have little time to indulge in a game of golf, Allied Domecq, the second largest spirits and wine company in the world, has a pleasant surprise in store.

Allied Domecq has announced the ‘Teacher’s Achievers Office Golf Championship’, India’s first ever inside-office Golf Championship, in Delhi. Leading corporates like Pepsi, HSBC, Samsung, Shopper’s Stop and Grey Worldwide have confirmed participation in this event.

Harish Moolchandani, Managing Director, Allied Domecq Spirits and Wines (I), said, “We are celebrating the spirit of achievement across all genres and are pleased to bring Teacher’s Achievers Office Golf Championship to Delhi. Through this golf championship we intend to highlight outstanding performances and leadership qualities that are resident in each individual.”

“We are branding our product with corporates. Considering that golf is a game with executives associate, we took it as a platform to help them unwind. Most HRD officials were also very happy with our suggestion as they found that this could be a great bonding factor among executives,” he said.

Allied Domecq has joined hands with 9 Yards Sports & Entertainment for the event. The rules of Office Golf are simple and the participants don't need to be golfers to take part. The Teacher’s Achievers implementation team will set up a 3-hole golf course inside the participating offices. ‘The Teacher’s Office Golf Team’ will guide the participants during the event. The winner from each participating office will then go on to compete with other office champions at the city final.

This event was first launched in Mumbai in December 2003 and over 60 corporates took part. Prudential ICICI, Coca-Cola India, Reliance Capital Asset Management, Radio Mirchi, Hyatt Regency, Tata Indicom and Mukta Arts made it to the Mumbai finals.

Spanning across the next two months, the championship will be held in the top companies of Delhi. From Delhi, the championship will move to Bangalore. The winners of these three cities will battle it out for the top slot at the national level.
