AC Nielsen rates Ruchi Soya as fastest growing FMCG firm

A syndicated retail audit research by India’s leading market research agency, AC Nielsen for the period April 2004-March 2005, indicated that Ruchi Soya Industries Limited (RSIL) has been rated as the fastest growing FMCG company in the country with an annual growth of 62 per cent. The overall growth in the FMCG sector for the same period was 6.3 per cent.

The survey spans across all sectors from durables, media, pharma, social, industrial, political and FMCG across the respective retail universe in 24 towns. This market research is further customised according to the category, brand, sub-groups, volume, value and distribution.

Commenting on RSIL’s fine performance and rating, Dinesh Shahra, Managing Director, RSIL, said, “We are delighted that RSIL has proved itself in the FMCG market. In order to build our healthy brands, we have spent considerably this past year and will spend substantially more in the future.”

Ruchi Soya claims to be the largest producer and supplier of vegetable oil and soya foods today with the largest solvent extraction (4,000 tpd) and refining capacity (3,450tpd). Ruchi Soya Industries has exhibited 41 per cent revenue and 30 per cent profit CAGR over the last 15 years.

Perceiving the shift in the consumer preferences well in time, Ruchi Soya has been able to move from commodity to the branded portfolio model. The branded sales for Ruchi Soya have grown at a CAGR of 26 per cent over the past five years from Rs 2.5 billion in FY99 to around Rs 10 billion for FY05 E. Branded sales now account 25 per cent of overall revenues and are likely to exhibit a stronger CAGR growth than before.

Capitalising on the brand equity of the Nutrela brand, RSIL has ventured into the ready to cook segment with soya granules called Nutrela Flavour. It has also introduced India’s first vitamin enriched oils with Nutrela healthy cooking oil in the premium light oil category. RuchiGold refined Palmolien oil has become the fastest growing brand in consumer packs for RSIL within refined oil consumer packs. Other growth drivers are the brands like Soyumm-refined soyabean oil, Sunrich-refined sunflower oil, and recent innovation nutrela vitaminised oils.
