3rd IAA Leadership Awards: Marketers speak on their wins

The IAA Leadership Awards recognises the leaders from various media industries across India. The third edition of the IAA Leadership Awards presented by Colors held recently brought together the most creative and strategic minds from the world of marketing, media and advertising industry as they competed against each other for the awards.

exchange4media spoke with few of the winners to get their reactions on winning the award.
 

I Venkat

Director, Eenadu Group

Awarded for: Hall of Fame


Venkat has been the Chairman of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) since September 2011. He has been at Eenadu Group for four decades and known for his work achieved in the publishing and television industry. He has also been part of various other media and advertising organisations in various roles.  

On winning the award:

All I can say is this award is to the industry itself because at the end of the day they have given me the award for the work which I have done for all the various industry bodies over the years. So this award belongs to the entire industry and of course to my organisation, the honour goes to Eenadu. 
  

 

Debabrata Mukherjee

VP – Marketing & Commercial, Coca Cola India & South West Asia BU

Awarded for: Marketer of the Year: FMCG – Beverage 


Mukherjee’s experience spans across 20 years in roles such as marketing planning and sales operations. He has served in his current role as VP – Marketing & Commercial for more than a year and half prior to which he has been the VP – Strategy & Innovation for close to three years. His time at Coca-Cola exceeds 17 years heading various marketing and sales roles across Asia. Prior to his time in Coca-Cola he did a 4-year stint at Hindustan Unilever.

One winning the award:

We have done a lot of work around building the portfolio. For Brand Coke we got the voice a little more mass. We stayed on the open happiness platform but we were in the footprint, that is something which is interesting and engaging with  is what we did last year. With appreciation comes accountability. What we have also been able to do beyond the 30-sec spot, is Coke Studio which has been a fantastic platform, Sprite Till I Die which is a nice teen-engaging platform and we do football with all India Football Federation, so multiple things – life is not about one big firework, it is about multiple bonfires and last year we have been able to light multiple bonfires that has what has helped us get this beautiful award.

 

 

Sanjay Chitkara

Head Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics

Awarded for: Marketer of the Year: Consumer Durables


Chitkara has been working with LG Electronics for over 16 years. He has been at the helm of marketing for LG Electronics for over two, years prior to which he was heading sales administration at the organization. Prior to working with LG Electronics, he has worked with Videocon and Fedders Lloyd Corp. 
 
On winning the award:

“I am humbled to receive this appreciation and thank everyone on behalf of LG Electronics India family. With the ever evolving industry like ours, we constantly try to innovate and support our amazing range of products with new and different ideas throughout the year that capture the attention of our consumers in every part of the country. This award is a testimonial of the fact that we have managed to bring the brand closer to our consumers and deliver as per their expectations. I would also like to thank my team, that has worked days and nights to ensure LG has the top recall in the consumer’s mind that has helped us sustain our leadership position in the Indian consumer durable market.”

Siddhartha Mukherjee 

Director, Marketing Chocolate Innovation AP, Mondelez International

Awarded for: Marketer of the Year: FMCG – Food


Mukherjee has worked with Mondelez for over 16 years and has served at his current position for close to two years. Prior to Mondelez, he worked as Platform Director – Impulse, New Market Entry, Global Category Team at Cadbury for over four years. He has also been Asia Pacific head for Cadbury Schweppes.

On winning the award:

“Advertising is the biggest driver of growth for our chocolate brands. Our marketers, agencies and our media partners; everyone who works on our brands lives and breathes our brands. This award is a welcome recognition for their collective passion for marketing excellence and our most loved brands. I would like to thank the IAA for the same.” 
 

Yadvinder Singh Guleria

SVP – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter (HMSI)

Awarded for: Marketer of the Year: Auto – Two Wheelers

Guleria has been heading marketing and sales at HMSI for over three years, before which he had been the Director at Polaris India for a year. Before joining Polaris he was at HMSI for over 17 years.  

On winning the award:

“Having a very strong foundation and ethical business practices and also having a craving for innovation and thinking out of the box, I would say they are the key one. We always encourage the team to have this formula of safe to fail, always try something new at least 20-30% of what you do on a regular basis.”

 

 

Pradeep Jain

MD, Karbonn Mobile

Awarded for: Marketer of the Year: Mobile Devices


Jain has been known for spearheading one of the top smartphone brands in the country. He is said to be a first generation entrepreneur and laid the foundation of Karbonn Mobile in March 2009. Under his able leadership, Karbonn had emerged as one of the fastest growing mobile phone brands in India, within six months of its launch. 

On winning the award:

“I’m extremely humbled by this recognition bestowed upon me by the stalwarts of the advertising and marketing industry. Karbonn, with emphasis on “massifying technology” has been focused towards bringing the benefits of mobile technology to the masses at disruptive price points and all our marketing efforts have been aligned towards fulfilling this vision.”
