 R C Bhargava honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award @IMA 2014

R C Bhargava, non executive chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Indian Marketing Awards IMA) 2014 on Friday, amidst a grand gathering to celebrate the finest and trend-setting work in the marketing arena.

Sanjeev Handa GM, Marketing & Product Planning Maruti Suzuki India, accepted the award on behalf of RC Bhargava.

The IMA jury was headed by Vinita Bali, former Managing Director, Britannia and the jury members include Ranjan Kapur, Country Manager – India at WPP; Prema Sagar, Principal & Founder at Genesis Burson-Marsteller; Thomas Puliyel, President at IMRB International, Mumbai; Vijay Subramaniam, Managing Director - India & South East Asia, Bacardi India; Kamal Bali, Managing Director, Volvo India; Dr. Amarnath Ananthanarayanan, Managing Director & CEO, Bharti AXA General Insurance; Amit Burman, Vice Chairman, Dabur; Geetu Verma, Executive Director - Foods & Refreshments, HUL; Harit Nagpal, CEO, Tatasky; Sangeeta Pendurkar, Managing Director, Kellogg and Saugata Gupta, Managing Director & CEO, Marico.

Commenting on the award, Vinita Bali said, “The lifetime achievement award actually recognizes an individual who has over a long period of time demonstrated the ability to create brands, to nurture them and to fortify and grow them. At the same time, it is also about growing the company and the value of the company for all its stakeholders over time, because our belief is that brands and businesses go hand in hand and strong brands create strong businesses. So the lifetime achievement award is looking at an individual’s contribution over a long period of time and the jury had actually a very robust discussion and debate as you can imagine there were several people who met the criteria initially but ultimately where we ended up was where we all believed was an individual who has demonstrated this not for a decade, not for two decades, but for three decades.” 

Bhargava joined Maruti in 1981 after a long career in administrative and industrial services. He served as Chairman and MD for seven years.  He has had a glorious career of 40 years with different roles in the industry. He was with Bharat Heavy Electricals and also Joint Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat in the Government of India and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Government of India.
