Kids channels in top gear for Friendship Day, Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day

For kids’ channels, festive days are back again. With Friendship Day, Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day and Janmashtami round the corner, Cartoon Network, Pogo, Disney, Jetix and Nick have come up with various initiatives and programmes to ring in the celebrations for the young and young at heart alike.

While most kids’ channels are banking on their programme line-up, Nick is taking the contests and promotions route for the festivals. The umbrella brand for Nick’s on-going programming is ‘Nick Monsoon Fest’. The channel launched the ‘Nick at Nite-Family Time’ in the 8.00 pm time slot on July 28 with two new shows – ‘Tricky TV’ and ‘The Monkey King’. For the festive season, Nick has organised a contest for Friendship Day, where kids can vote for their favourite Nicktoon. On Raksha Bandhan, the channel will have promotions where siblings can send in their pictures to Nick. The best picture would be then aired on Nick on August 16. On Independence Day, the channel would air back-to-back episodes of ‘Mighty Cat Masked Niyandar’ on from noon to 8.00 pm.

Pogo’s Independence Day offering includes ‘Chhota Bheem’ and Mr Bean. The channel will also showcase its Barbie Movies in the Saturday Movie Block ¬in August. Barbie Movies have been one of the better rated properties on the channel.

Cartoon Network, too, has put together a Krishna Janmashtami line-up with movies such as ‘Krishna – The Birth’, ‘Krishna – Makhan Chor’, ‘Krishna – In Vrindavan’ and ‘Krishna – Kansa Vadh’ from August 21-24.

Disney Channel’s plans for Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan include airing movies like ‘Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe’ on August 15, besides focusing on brother-sister relationship in shows such as ‘Phineas & Ferb’, ‘Life with Derek’ (Derek and his sister), ‘Son Pari’, ‘Hannah Montana’ (Hannah and Jackson), ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. The movie ‘Halloweentown’ is also planned for the day.

Jetix, on the other hand, has put together a Power Rangers Independence Day Special that has the best episodes from multiple Power Rangers Series.
