IRS 2011 Q2: Business dailies consolidate readership

The top three business dailies – Economic Times, Mint and Business Standard – have witnessed growth in their average issue readership (AIR) in IRS 2011 Q2 as compared to the previous quarter as well as over the corresponding period of last year. This reflects the general growth trend seen in business dailies in the latest quarter.

The Economic Times, with the AIR of 7.85 lakh, remains the leader in the genre, seeing a 4 per cent growth in AIR over the last year. The compact 6-day newspaper Mint has added 74,000 readers in a year and has grown by 45 per cent over the last year. The AIR of the daily from the HT Media stable has gone up to 2.40 lakh now. Business Standard has maintained its third rank with an AIR of 1.53 lakh, a growth of 8 per cent over last year.

Meanwhile, though Hindu Business Line has reported a growth of 16 per cent over IRS 2011 Q1, when compared to the corresponding period last year, the paper has seen a decline of 8 per cent. The daily has registered an AIR of 1.06 lakh.

Hindi business newspaper Business Standard has seen a growth of 19 per cent over last year, with its current AIR hovering around 63,000. Meanwhile, Business Bhaskar has grown by 7 per cent as compared to the previous quarter, taking its current AIR to 44,000.
