While growth has continued for the topline Gujarati dailies, weekly magazines have also witnessed soaring trends in their readership numbers as per the Indian Readership Survey 2011 Q1 data. Readership of Gujarati dailies have grown by 3.68 per cent as compared to IRS 2010 Q1 results, while weeklies have witnessed double digit growth of 28 per cent, with the readership of ‘Any Gujarati’ weeklies touching 1.92 lakh.
Gujarat Samachar, with an AIR of 52.76 lakh, has added 59,000 more readers since IRS 2010 Q1. Divya Bhaskar has also reported double digit growth and recorded an AIR of 35.78 lakh in IRS 2011 Q1, a growth of 10.09 per cent over IRS 2010 Q1. Sandesh, with the growth of 3.52 per cent, has garnered an AIR of 32.32 lakh.
Meanwhile, Saurashtra Samachar, Bombay Samachar, Gujrat Mitra and Darpan and Akila (6-day newspaper) are among the dailies that have registered negative growth in their readership. On the other hand, Kutch Mitra and Gujarati Mid Day have seen positive growth in AIR numbers. Gujarati Mid Day has reported a whopping double digit growth of 32.97 per cent (compared to IRS 2010 Q1) registering an AIR of 1.21 lakh.
Gujarati weeklies Chitralekha and Abhiyaan, too, have witnessed growth in readership by 12.70 per cent and 27.27 per cent, respectively, as compared to IRS 2010 Q1 results.
