IRS 2010 Q4: Decline continues for dailies in Punjab

Decline in the readership graph of most dailies in Punjab has continued in Q4 of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) too. While in Q3, seven out of the top ten dailies had seen decline, in the latest quarter, eight newspapers have de-grown in Punjab.

The top three dailies, including Ajit, Punjab Kesari and Jag Bani, have seen decline in their average issue readership (AIR) as compared to the AIR in Q3.

Hindi dailies Dainik Bhaskar and Dainik Jagaran have been able to restore positive growth in Q4. With an AIR of 8.49 lakh, Dainik Bhaskar has grown 4.81 per cent as against Q3. Dainik Jagran has added 17,000 new readers in the state and recorded an AIR of 8.19 lakh per the Q4 figures of IRS.

English dailies, too, could not bring any relief to the industry and most of them have de-grown in Punjab in Q4.
