With the 2012 election already beginning to make a stir, the most lucrative market for newspapers, Uttar Pradesh, has seen robust growth for dailies as per IRS Q4 2010. Six out of top seven newspapers have seen positive growth in the readership as compared to Q3 results of IRS.
Dainik Jagran with AIR (Average Issue Readership) 89.38 Lac has maintained its top rank in the state. However, the newspaper has seen decline of 0.08 per cent in readership as against the Q3 results. Amar Ujala with positive growth of 1.21 per cent has recorded 68.31 Lac AIR in the state.
With double digit growth of 10.57 per cent in readership as compared to previous results; Hindustan has garnered AIR 35.26 Lac in Q4. Amar Ujala compact with whopping 39.65 per cent growth ranked fourth in the state. Meanwhile Aj has achieved AIR 7.29 Lac with 7.05 per cent growth in AIR.
English dailies the Times of India (TOI) and Hindustan Times (HT) have also witnessed growth in readership in the state. TOI has registered AIR 5.55 Lac and HT has AIR 2.62 Lac in IRS Q4 2010.
