IRS 2010 Q4: A chequered year for Gujarati publications

IRS 2010 Q4:  A chequered year for Gujarati publications

With the data for IRS 2010 Q4 released last week, exchange4media analyses the year gone by for the print industry. As per the analysis, Gujarati dailies have seen rise and fall in readership throughout the last four quarters. For some dailies, the year ended in numbers lower than those registered in Q1 2010.

Gujarat Samachar, the most read daily in Gujarati language, had started off journey of the year with an average issue readership (AIR) of 5,217,000, which fell to 5,177,000 by Q4 2010. On the other hand, Divya Bhaskar was able to maintain its growth in the first three quarters. However, the paper has seen a marginal decline in AIR in the fourth round, as compared to Q3 2010, closing the year with an AIR of 3,543,000.

Sandesh had mixed results in all four quarters in 2010. While in first two quarters its growth was almost steady, in Q4 it has seen marginal decline in readership at 3,303,000.

 

With ups and downs during the four quarters, Saurashtra Samachar closed the year with an AIR of 208,000. In Q1, the daily had recorded an AIR of 263,000.

 

Bombay Samachar, the fifth popular daily of the genre, has witnessed a decline in readership in all the four quarters. In Q1, the daily had an AIR of 218,000, while in Q4, the daily recorded an AIR of 204,000.
