Mumbai Indians turned out to be the most viewed IPL team during the ninth season of VIVO IPL where Sunrisers Hyderabad was crowned the winner this year. In its 14 matches, the team which stood fifth on the final points table, garnered 18.57 million impressions on average per match during the telecast according to the viewership data from Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India. Royal Challengers Bangalore comes close second with 18.37 million impressions on average per match while Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders stood third with 16.57 million impressions.
The new entrants of this year’s IPL, Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants did pretty well when it comes to viewership coming fourth and fifth respectively. Intex Technologies’s Gujarat Lions recorded 16.55 million impressions while Sanjiv Goenka’s Rising Pune Supergiants fetched 15.68 million impressions per match. Delhi Daredevils stood sixth with 14.98 million impressions per match while Sunrisers Hyderabad came seventh with 14.89 million impressions. Kings Xi Punjab earned the eighth spot with 14.35 million impressions.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) which is growing at a double-digit pace clocked Rs 2,500 crore in overall revenue in its recently concluded ninth season according to media reports. This includes revenues of TV and digital channels from advertisements, as well as teams from sponsorship, ticket sales and merchandising, and BCCI from on-ground sponsorship.
The reports even mentioned that Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils got the maximum ticketing revenue of around Rs 25-26 crore, Rs 24-26 crores and Rs 22-24 crore respectively. They were followed by Rising Pune Supergiants (Rs 18-20 crore), Kolkata Knight Riders (Rs 16-18 crore), Sunrisers Hyderabad (RS 15-16 crore), Gujarat Lions (Rs 14-15 crore), and Kings XI Punjab (Rs 13-14 crore).
