The viewership of IPL season 8 continued to grow into the current week. The 45 matches played during this season were sampled by 182 million unique viewers according to TAM data. IPL 8 in comparison with IPL 7 grew by 22% in TVRs during the same period. While IPL 7 brought in 3.0 TVRs, IPL 8 brought in 3.6 TVRs during the 45 matches.
The total time spent has also increased by 9% in comparison with the previous season. In IPL 7 the total time spent by viewers per match was 41 minutes and 22 seconds, while during IPL 8 it has increased to 45 minutes and 4 seconds. 68 per cent of the All India Universe tuned in to watch IPL 8 matches. This is a 2 per cent increase in reach which had increased to 182 million in IPL 8 from 179 million in IPL 7. In terms of TVTs IPL 8 recorded 9,823 TVTs in comparison with 7,985 TVTs during IPL 7, which is a 23% increase in ratings.
The match on May 3, Sunday between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KP) brought in ratings of 2.7 TVRs. The other match on the same day was between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) brought in ratings of 3.2 TVRs. The next game on May 5, Monday between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got ratings of 2.5 TVRs. On the same day another match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad brought in 3.4 TVRs. One May 5, Tuesday the match between DD and MI got ratings of 3.5 TVRs. The match on May 6 between RCB and KP brought in ratings of 4.2 TVRs. The match between SHR and RR on May 7 scored a rating of 1.6 TVRs. The match between KKR and DD on the same day got ratings of 3.7 TVRs. CSK vs. MI on May 8 got ratings of 4.7 TVRs. KP vs. KKP on May 9 got ratings of 2.2. SRH vs. DD on the same day got ratings of 3.1 TVRs.
