ZEE, UTV and Saregama plan to set up apex body

Zee Telefilms, UTV Net Solutions and Saregama India are planning to organise platform on the lines of Nasscom to redefine and take the entertainment sector to new heights.

UTV Net Solutions CEO Biren Ghose has prescribed a four-pronged approach. These are to resolve the pervading inner conflicts, which meant changing the mindset as far as entertainment went. Secondly, any “mass movement” requires redefining territory, identifying expansion areas and finally leading the sector to this matrix.

The sector must formulate a national entertainment strategy to position itself as a Rs 50,000-crore industry in the next five years. Besides, it should outsource across the value chain and become an international content provider too.

Dwelling on the digital revolution now underway, Zee Telefilms CEO R K Singh felt this wave would gather pace, accelerating content delivery at the mass and individual levels. “Narrow-casting through the Net or DTH will gradually become a reality. Broadband will pre-empt a different spin and open up newer opportunities.” The fast shifting sands will find online publishing of books and personalised mobile telephony.
