Zee to strength its broadcasting business in Pakistan

The Zee Network is planning to strengthen its broadcasting business in Pakistan. Towards this end, a Zee delegation was in Pakistan recently.

The Zee delegation to Pakistan included group CEO (broadcasting) Sandeep Goyal and director (marketing) Partha Pratim Sinha. As part of the CII International delegation, a 19-member high-powered business team visited Pakistan last week, to coincide with the Saarc Trade Fair in Karachi.

Zee is primarily focussing on three channels in Pakistan, said Mr. Sinha. These are Zee TV, Zee Movies and Zee MGM. These are very strongly distributed channels there. But the recent meetings with the distributor community are aimed at strengthening its market further.

Although Zee is upbeat about its strong presence in Pakistan, there have been reports in Pak press recently indicating that digitalisation of the channel would affect its viewership.

According to one such report, its entertainment channel Zee TV was the most viewed free-to-air foreign TV channel in Pakistan, since its launch via Asiasat. However, with the channel going digital and pay, it would get viewership only in urban areas, the report added.
