VSNL drops DTH plans as of now

Videsh Sanchar Nigam has decided not to pursue its direct-to-home plans as of now after its consultant advised it against an immediate foray into the segment.

VSNL earlier this year, had envinced interest in exploring a host of new opportunities like DTH, basic and cellular segment, in addition to foraying into national long distance market.

VSNL recently filed an application with the department of telecommunications for grant of license for national long distance services, a part of its compensation package in lieu of government's decision for advancement of the deadline for breaking VSNL's monopoly in international communications sector, to March 2002.
