TV Today plans to launch regional news channel

TV Today Network, the group’s television arm, will look for strategic alliances with existing players from the south to launch regional news channels. A business news channel is also in the offing.

Mr. G Krishnan, executive director, TV Today Network, said the group was open to strategic alliances with south-based channels to launch news channels in various regional languages. However, regional foray plans are still on the drawing board and are expected to take firm shape towards end of next year.

TV Today is slated to launch its Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak, on December 30. The 24-hour free-to-air news channel will target Hindi-speaking households in north, west and east India. The group has earmarked investments of around Rs 60 crore over the next one-year for the Hindi news channel.

The group has recently awarded the advertising account of the new channel to TBWA Anthem.
