Star undecided about DTH operations

Mr. James Murdoch, executive vice-president of News Corp and chief executive officer of Star said that, Star was still undecided on making a foray into DTH.

Star has two major concerns in making a foray into the domestic DTH segment. First, the DTH guidelines talk of a sectoral cap of 20 per cent for broadcasters. Second, the open-architecture set-top-box, as prescribed in the DTH guidelines.

Mr. Murdoch and his delegation, which included Star India chief executive officer Peter Mukerjea, met Information and Broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed in detail on various issues, including DTH and FM radio.

Mr. Mudoch expressed his happiness with the FM radio operations and spoke at length about it during his meeting with Sushma Swaraj.

Star is in a venture with the Ispat group in Music Broadcast Pvt. Ltd., which has license to set up FM stations in six centres.
