Star TV and Hathway to launch broadband service and interactive TV in April 2001

Star TV and Hathway Cable & Datacom will launch its interactive television and broadband Internet service in April 2001. The offering will initially include around 20 exclusive digital channels, mainly from News Corp stable.

The service will be launched simultaneously in Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Delhi. It is planning to include a Hindi movie channel specifically for the network.

Through the set top box, Star TV and Hathway Cable will offer Internet access, which will include interactive sports, news, entertainment channel and an electronic programming guide. A flat price for accessing all services will be charged from the customers.

A co-branded Star TV and Hathway TV-enabled portal is being developed. An aggregation of content from the Star TV invested portals like indya.com and egurucool.com will be built for broadband delivery through cable. The bundle of services will also provide e-mail facilities and e-shopping.
