Star India has decided to launch Junior Kaun Banega Crorepati (JKBC) on May 6. The game show for kids will be aired between 10 and 11 am every Sunday on Star Plus. This is seen as an attempt by Star to increase viewership in the Sunday morning time band.
JKBC has attracted eight sponsors. To be hosted by film star Amitabh Bachchan, the game show will be sponsored by McDonald’s, Britannia, SSI, TI Cycles, Novartis, Cadbury’s, Nestle and Parle. All these sponsors have been signed on for a period of 13 weeks across Star Plus and not just for JKBC.
The format for JKBC will be similar to KBC. The point of difference is in the area of prize money. In JKBC, the prize money is given away when the child turns major to be used for further academic pursuits. The phone lines for JKBC are currently open to children in the age group of 10-18 across all schools in India. The level of difficulty will vary depending on the age of the child.
