Sky-B will be the first satellite channel to be uplinked from Calcutta.

While other programmes would be produced at the Sky-B studios in south Calcutta, news and talk shows would roll live from the VSNL station at Salt Lake city.

Sky-B has taken on lease the property of the Webel Multimedia Ltd. in south Calcutta. The studios have been equipped with latest technology and state-of-the-art equipment has been acquired.

The infotainment company— Sky-B (Bangla) Ltd., promoted by Calcutta-based corporate houses, promises an “innovative” channel, “much different from the run of the mill ones being beamed currently.

The channel envisages loss for the first two years and hopes to break-even in the third year. The total outlay for the first two years is about 42 crore. To begin with, the channel proposes three main news bulletins besides hourly updates. The programmes would be theme-based and region-specific.
