Rising costs forcing producers to pull out of DD National Network

High telecast and minimum guarantee fee is forcing several television software producers to pull out of Doordarshan National Network. Sagar Group, which produced the popular programme Ramayana, has withdrawn Jai Mahalaxmi and Ek Tha Bul Ek Thi Bulbul, while Dheeraj Kumar has pulled out Jab Tap Vrat. Sanjay Khan’s Jai Hanuman and Cinevista’s Nur Jahan and Kati Patang Hailife Yaaron were also taken out as it became commercially unviable.

The policy for DD-1 is not at all clear. While some slots like the 9-9.30 pm slot are based on a telecast fee, the other bands are on a MG category. Unlike DD Metro, DD-1 is a confused channel where it has a complex rate structure. The rate card is not market friendly.
