Prasar Bharati hires Ferguson for recruitment

Faced with an acute shortage of anchors, Prasar Bharati Corporation has mandated human resource consultancy firm AF Ferguson to locate new faces for Doordarshan’s flagship DD National channel. This is the first time that the corporation has hired an external agency for recruitment.

With curtains slated to come down on the public broadcaster’s dedicated DD News channel on January 26, Prasar Bharati is attempting to beef up the news and current affairs programming on DD National.

According to sources, Prasar Bharati has just four anchors on its panel -- two each for English and Hindi -- which, experts feel, is inadequate to cater to the 24 news bulletins, including hourly news headlines to be aired on DD National.

Most of the news content on DD News was being produced by professionals on contract basis, a facility that would cease once the channel goes off air. DD has decided to discontinue most news and current affairs programming on DD News and not shift them to DD National.
