Prasar Bharati CEO granted extension

ACTING chief executive officer of Prasar Bharati Rajiv Ratna Shah, whose term expires on Sunday, has been given an extension of six months or till the selection of a new CEO, whichever is earlier. This was disclosed by information and broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj during an interaction with journalists. She said the ministry had requested the high-level committee headed by vice-president Krishan Kant to select the CEO. Asked as to by what time the committee was expected to make the selection, she said, "I cannot set the deadline," but hoped the ministry would receive the recommendation within a month. On reports that former head of Discovery channel Kiran Karnik would be the new CEO, she said, "It is a mere coincidence that he left the day when the ministry asked for the recommendation from the committee... But two and two does not always make four." Prasar Bharati has had no permanent CEO for the past nearly three years after S S Gill was made to go during Swaraj's earlier tenure as I&B minister. Shah, an acting CEO, is a special secretary in the ministry.
