MTV plans to launch second music channel

MTV Networks plans to launch its second music channel VH1 for the Indian subcontinent. MTV will now oversee the distribution of kid channel Nickelodeon. Earlier, Nickelodeon was exclusively on Siticable platform.

These are among the new plans announced by Mr. Tom Freston, chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. Mr. Freston is international head of a package of Viacom-owned nine music and kids programming services. These include MTV, MTV2, VH1, Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.

MTV’s channel VH1 is focussed on international music and aims at an older 25-40 age group. With the main MTV channel’s programming dominated by Hindi film music, the broadcasting network was mulling launching a different music package for the subcontinent.MTV India will oversee the future distribution of Nickelodeon, and the kids channel will now be promoted on other cable platforms like INCable Net and Hathway Cable.
