Modi Entertainment is on the verge of forming a 50:50 joint venture with one of India’s leading telecom and ISP player for its foray into broadband. Last mile being the company’s main objective, it has already entered into tie-ups with over 5.5 million cable operators all across the country to provide the last mile connectivity.
Modi Entertainment will bring all these cable operators under one umbrella and help them upgrade the last mile of cable to enable broadband and Internet services, and thereby efficiently gain control of the last mile. Modi Entertainment will also be adopting a revenue sharing model.
As part of this broadband initiative the company will be providing all value-added services relating to broadband namely Internet on cable, video and audio on demand, downloading facilities, cable telephony, Internet telephony and cable e-commerce. While the Modi’s will only be providing the last mile connectivity, they are not getting into the delivery of cable channels.
