This would be the first time that Kumbh is being covered live in such a large scale manner. “All the Kumbh programmes will be prepared in-house and we are not looking at any revenues. The authorities in Allahabad have been worried about the delicate issues regarding broadcasting the event. Das said the coverage is not necessarily exclusive. Aastha, a spiritual satelitte channel, has also claimed that it would cover the event. The Mahakumbh programming will begin from Saturday with a documentary on the holy city of Allahabad called ‘Tirthraj Prayag’ to be aired at 12 noon on DD1. The coverage will continue till Januray 12. Other programmes include curtain-raisers, documentaries covering historical background and the state government’s preparations for the event. Besides, there would be a regular coverage on the news bulletins on different channels like DD1 and DDK Allahabad. “A special window will be created in national bulletins as was done during the Olympics,” said the minutes of a meeting where the decision was taken.
