Kolkata FM2 to be 24-hr channel from July

The FM channel 2 of All India Radio (AIR), Kolkata will become a 24-hour channel from July. The channel FM2 has been broadcasting programmes since August 15, 1991 in two time slots daily from 7:30am to 9:30am and from 7pm to 9:30 p.m. A substantial chunk of its programmes will comprise news and current affairs and will not clash with FM1 fare.

Meanwhile, the AIR brass are panicky over the growing popularity of private broadcasters. For it was the private players that made FM a household channel in just seven years.
