International: BBC export programme worth £171.8 m

BBC Worldwide, is set to increase its programme sales to seventy-five countries by a record sixteen per cent. BBCWW expects to notch sales of £171.8 million, exceeding last year’s record of £148.4m. The lion’s share of sales coming from quiz and gameshow formats, with The Weakest Link alone expected to raise £50m.

The announcement was timed to coincide with this week’s BBC Showcase, the world's largest TV programme market hosted by a single broadcaster. The event is expected to add at least £40m to the BBC’s coffers.
